Three Principles Of Good Business in Second Life: How To Maintain Best Practices

Everyone wants to open and grow a business in Second Life. Whether its retail (apparel, accessories, furniture) or real estate and homes, or services (AV services, event organisation, marketing help) there is an art of evolving a successful company in the virtual world of SL.

It's a great idea to draft, at the very beginning, a short list of principles that you intend to promote and display through your business. I suggest three principles and these will guide everything you write, do and practice with every aspect of the company. These will shape your image, your market and everything you produce. These will hopefully translate into reviews and testimonials of your business throughout Second Life and the online world in general.

Recently I cornered the owner of North Shore Estates, a unique land and housing rental company in Second Lfe. His name is Titan (or titanious), and besides being personable, he is always happy to share his 3 Guiding principles for North Shore.

  1. Bringing Affordable Land to Renters.
This is a simple industry-specific principle and it represents the emphasis on economically feasible solutions for Second Life residents seeking land of their own.
  2. We are More Personable with our Customers for a 'Home 'Feeling. (Not Just Another Realty Company). This covers every interaction between company and client, becoming known for a warm business environment.
  3. Going Above and Beyond
North Shore will always lead the way by demonstrating extra effort in the every phase of its operation and customer relations.

How to Maintain These Principles
Make certain these principles are enforced in every communication, every marketing campaign, and every publicity effort. Unashamedly promote these principles whenever possible during every stage of your company's operations. Finally, monitor reviews and testimonials to track how strongly your principles are becoming known.
